Heart-Safe Community

Heart-Safe Community

The life you save with CPR is most likely to be a loved one! Of cardiac arrest occurrences, 88% happen at home. Effective bystander CPR can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival. Building a heart-safe community requires CPR training for citizens, awareness and education, and the placement of alternative external defibrillators in schools of children with known cardiac defects.

Children’s Hospital Colorado Heart Institute, South Metro Safety Foundation, South Metro Fire Rescue Authority, and The Brianna Badger Foundation have teamed up to hold the Sweet Hearts Ball to raise funds to build our Heart Safe Community!

Hands-Only CPR

If the victim is not breathing or only gasping:

  1. Call 911 or have someone else call for you.
  2. Press hard and fast in the center of the chest. (Tip: Use the beat of “Stayin’ Alive.”)
